THERE aren't enough superlatives, there aren't enough adjectives to describe Attraction, the wonder filly who, in her eighth unbeaten race, landed the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot last Friday.
She won in her usual front-running fashion, the third Group 1 diamond in her crown this year, adding to the Guineas in both England and Ireland.
Trainer Mark Johnston was prepared to take her out of this big race as late as 7.45 that morning, as there is coughing in the Kingsley House yard, but "she looked a picture," he said. "She has produced a performance out of the top drawer. She is the most phenomenal racehorse that I have trained by a long way."
Connections are considering the Breeders Cup Mile in America, but would have to find a lot of cash to supplement her (pay for the race entry) and other options may be preferred for the daughter of Efisio, including the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket, taking on older fillies, and a crack at the colts later.
On Thursday, Johnston's team were so nearly there: Darasim and Royal Rebel were third and fourth respectively in the Gold Cup behind Godolphin's Papineau, while Etmaam was only just pipped a neck and a short head into third in the King George V Stakes, won by Sir Michael Stoute's Admiral.
Up at Ripon, though, he had a double, Spirit Of France and Yoshka, both ridden by Keith Dalgleish, who took a personal treble, also partnering John Quinn's Smart Minister. Johnston also sent out two maiden winners elsewhere this week, Carte Diamond at Redcar and, for owner Martin Doyle, King Of Love at Carlisle.
Tim Easterby won the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday with Fayr Jag, who clearly relished the ultra-fast going and who romped home under Willie Supple to delight a beaming owner, Jonathan Gill.
David Nicholls had an emotional first Royal Ascot winner later on the card, when Lafi landed the Wokingham, landing a huge gamble in the process. Eddie Ahern had the mount and hit the front a full furlong out, to win by a good length and a half. Nicholls was celebrating his tenth wedding anniversary to Alex Greaves and this race clearly meant a lot, adding to his list of spring successes.
Michael Dods had three doubles in the week and John Wainwright is also on top form. Nikki Wilson, wife of trainer Noel, looks to have a cracking chance at being top lady amateur, winning three off the reel.
