INDOOR sport fans were bowled over when a £500 cheque was presented towards equipment.
The grant to Hawes Carpet Bowls Club came from North Yorkshire county council's Richmondshire area committee budget and was presented to members by Coun John Blackie, who represents the upper dales. The money will buy a mobile carpet handling unit.
The club, formed in 1984, meets at Hawes market hall on Tuesday evenings from September to May.
It is thriving with 20 regular players, but more are welcome.
Jean Sleightholme, club secretary, said: "We were delighted to receive this cheque which will enable us to enjoy an extra half hour's play each time we meet."
Coun Blackie said: "I was pleased to assist the bowls club, as opportunities to play indoor sport in the upper dales are so very limited."
