A TEAM of five amateur cyclists are to race stage ten of the Tour de France to raise funds for charity.

Last week, the riders were dealt a blow when the vehicle pledged to them for transport to France would no longer be available.

Comedian Roy Chubby Brown, a supporter of the charity, has donated £200 to the cost, but a further £175 is needed.

The team is raising money for the Holistic Cancer Care Centre at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

With only two and a half weeks to go, the group is appealing to individuals or businesses that are able to help by donating the extra money needed to pay for hiring a vehicle.

The group, led by John Kerr, will be riding the 150- mile race from Limoges to St Flour, stage ten of the Tour de France, two days prior to the professionals competing on the same course.

Anyone who can help with funding for a van is asked to contact Mr Kerr on 07855 320975.
