Harriers are being kept very busy with many and varied races available to enter.
The latest fixture in the HDRR League took place at Otley, and Ian Fisher of Otley AC was once again the winner, in a time of 32.24 minutes. Gary Dunn was again the first Harrier to finish, in 7th place, in 35.57, Stephan Tomaszewski 32nd in 40.24, Phil Utley 47th in 41.46, Ernie Huck 75th in 44.49 given the same time as Hywel Smith, William Hayward 86th in 46.11, Alan Wikeley 89th in 46.28, Stuart McLauchlan 112th in 48.53, Pat Kirby 121st in 50.07, Maureen Gibbs 136th in 52.47, Nik Sutton-Haigh 173rd in 61.47 and Yvonne Wood 174th in 62.14.
It was the inaugural running of the Midsummer 10 at Ripon this year - previously this event has been a 10k. Only 83 runners completed the race, well down on previous turnouts, and Ernie Huck was the first Harrier to finish, in 22nd place in 73.07. David Shorrocks came 33rd in 75.45, Alan Harman 36th in 77.06, Peter Scanlon 55th in 83.36, Fiona Wilson 65th in 91.12 and Lydia Evitt 81st in 105.02.
A couple of weeks earlier, Lydia and her father Ken completed the Plymouth Half Marathon in very hot conditions. Ken finished 725th in 1.48.21 and Lydia 1694th in 2.15.12.
The usual large field entered the Blaydon Race on the traditional June 9. William Barker finished a creditable 138th in 35.38 and Ian Codling covered the distance of just under 6 miles in 48.31, coming 28th in the M60 age-group. Pamela Sherlock took 56.03 minutes and was 7th in the F60 group, with Marian Codling 9th in the F60 in 56.51.
