A dance project involving 100 young people was staged on the roof of the region's National Glass Centre yesterday.
The newly choreographed work, entitled Dragonfly, was specifically created for the Sunderland venue.
The production marked the culmination of an eight-month collaboration between Wayne McGregor, of Random Dance, professional dance artists based in the region, including Tin Productions and Vitrual Mortion, and pupils from Middleton-in-Teesdale, Oakley Cross and Wearhead primary schools, in County Durham, and Southwick and Bexhill primary schools, in Sunderland.
Random Dance has rapidly risen to the fore of choreography in the UK. It is the company in residence at Sadlers Wells Theatre, in London, and is renowned all over the world for its extraordinary innovations in dance, from its pioneering work with the integration of new technologies in performance.
The Dragonfly production was also a joint venture between Creative Partnerships Durham Sunderland, DanceCity, National Dance Agency for the North-East region, Random Dance and The National Glass Centre, in Sunderland.
