A FLORAL tribute in the shape of a pool table was a fitting goodbye to a father and son who died together.

Mally Gellatly, 48, and his son Shaun, 28, used to play together at the Kicking Cuddy Inn, the venue for their wake.

Villagers in Coxhoe, County Durham, where Shaun lived, held a collection for the send off when they heard that the pair had died in a car crash in the early hours of June 15.

Mally, of Westfield Way, Redcar, and Shaun, of Park Avenue, Coxhoe, and were back seat passengers in a Rover when it left the A177 and overturned, leaving them with fatal injuries.

Friends and family gathered at St Mary's Church in Coxhoe to pay their last respects before burying them together at Bowburn Cemetery.

Their relatives asked mourners to wear bright colourful clothes rather than traditional black because it is what they would have wanted.

Shaun's sister-in-law Angela Boseley said they would not have wanted the service to be a sad affair because they loved laughing so much.

She said: "Shaun and Mally liked colour and did not like things to be too traditional. They would have wanted it to be a party atmosphere and not a black and sombre affair.

"They were always full of fun so we wanted it to be a celebration of their life. We wanted everyone to give them a damn good send off."

Music at the funeral was In These Arms by Bon Jovi, as it was one of Shaun's favourite songs.
