THE streets of Darlington were taken over by a host of mythical figures at the weekend as the annual community carnival came to town.
Youngsters shrugged off the rain on Saturday to put on a spectacular procession with the theme of myths and legends.
King Arthur and Pegasus the winged horse were among characters on show as the parade proceeded through the streets after being launched from the Arts Centre by Darlington Mayor Roderick Francis.
Councillor Francis was joined for the ceremony by Darlington Civic Theatre stars Frazer Hines and Robert Duncan, who also presented awards for the best procession floats.
The awards were presented to Red Hall Community Centre and Darlington Association on Disability.
Carnival organiser Jackie Maddison said: "It was fantastic. Everything went well, despite the rain. The Arts Centre was packed."
The fun continued yesterday in the Market Square, with performances from several local bands
