The parents of a brave teenager who died from cancer are urging more cyclists to help them make a fundraising event in his honour the biggest so far.
Chris Lucas, from Wallsend, died in July 2000, aged 18, after contracting a rare form of cancer, called rhabdomyosarcoma, which affects the lung muscles.
His parents set up the Great North Bike Ride to raise cash for the Chris Lucas Trust.
His mother, Lynn Lucas, said: "Last year we raised £30,000 with 600 cyclists taking part. We aim to double that amount this year if possible." The event is backed by rock superstar Sting, who has donated £10,000.
The trust is fundraising for a scientific medical researcher, to study rhabdomyosarcoma.
The ride takes in 50 miles of Northumberland coastline from Seahouses to Tynemouth Priory, starting from Seahouses at 9am on Sunday, August 29.
The entry fee is £10, to include a T-shirt and medal.
