A pensioner has died after being involved in a collision with a young boy on a bike.
Eddie Nixon was riding his Suzuki moped along Norton Road, from the direction of Norton towards Stockton when the incident happened at around 3.30pm on Monday.
It is believed the 72-year-old collided with a pedal cycle that came onto Norton Road from Newlands Avenue.
Mr Nixon, from Thornaby, fell from his bike and the pedal cyclist is believed to have also fallen.
However, he got back on his bike, seemingly uninjured, and left the scene before any of the emergency services attended.
Mr Nixon was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton, but died later in the evening.
A police spokesman said: "Mr Nixon's family are devastated by losing him in such tragic circumstances.
"He was a man who lived for his own company and his motorbikes. He had been interested in motorbikes for all of his life and was an excellent rider."
Cleveland police are keen to trace the pedal cyclist in an effort to discover what happened. They would also like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the accident.
