A NORTH Yorkshire station is being studied as part of a project being carried out by a group of students from the US.
The three students from the University of South Carolina have undertaken a project on Richmond Station Building as part of their postgraduate studies in historical preservation.
The students, led by team leader Connie Shultz, have been working with Richmondshire District Council. They spent three weeks studying the building and researching the history of Richmond, its connections to the garrison and how the station acted as a important transport link during the Second World War.
Student Beth Wiedower said: "This has been a fantastic opportunity for us to view conservation in England and compare it to the United States.
"Richmond is a beautiful place and the station buildings are full of history. It has been a thoroughly enjoyable project."
David Elliott, conservation officer for Richmondshire District Council, said: "As part of their studies, the students have been looking into the history of the buildings and how that might be reflected in any future use of the site.
"They have clearly worked hard and produced an impressive project."
