LAW and order will be top of the agenda when Mayor Ray Mallon takes his Listening to the Town initiative to south Middlesbrough next week. There will be an open meeting at St Cuthbert's parish centre, Stokesley Road, Marton, a week tomorrow, starting at 6.30pm. Representatives from Cleveland Police and the council's community protection services and its executive member for community safety, Councillor Barry Coppinger, will join the mayor for the discussion.
Seal watch: There is a chance to observe the seals and waterbirds inhabiting the Teesmouth National Nature Reserve this weekend. Hartlepool Borough Council's countryside wardens are holding one of their seal watches on Sunday, from 11am to 1pm. Places must be booked by contacting (01429) 853325. The watch will use British Energy's observation hide. People taking part should meet at the Teesmouth Field Centre on the approach road to Hartlepool Power Station.
Emergency call: Firefighters called to help people stuck in a lift helped a woman who had fallen in her flat last night. The crew were called to Thorntree House, in Cargo Fleet Lane, Middlesbrough, at 6pm. After they rescued the people in the lift they were alerted to the elderly woman who had fallen and cut her arm.They gave her first aid and she was then taken to hospital by ambulance.
Triangle ride: The latest in Stockton Borough Council's guided cycle ride series takes place tonight. The Triangle Run will start from the Tees Barrage at 7pm, visiting the Anglo- Saxon sites in Norton and Billingham. The ride is open to all and is suitable for riders of most abilities. Health show: More than 20 companies are expected to take part in the Healthy Alternative Fair, promoting health and good living, to be held in the Atrium at the James Cook University Hospital tomorrow, from 10am to 4pm. The hospital's radio station is organizing the event.
Car boot: A car boot sale is being held at Conyers School, Green Lane, Yarm, on Sunday. Sellers should arrive by 9am and it will cost £5 per car and £10 for vans. Buyers will be allowed in at 9.30am.
