YOUNGSTERS are to be given awards for their efforts in improving their school libraries.
The Junior and Young Librarian 2004 awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, July 7, in Stockton Central Library.
The winners will be announced and presented with their awards by the Mayor of Stockton, Councillor Jennie Beaumont, and author Gillian Cross, who wrote the Demon Headmaster series.
There are 15 schools taking part in the event with pupils receiving training over several weeks in library and information skills from Stockton Borough Libraries staff. The children were also given the opportunity to use the skills to improve their own school libraries.
Ms Cross will be holding a number of sessions at different libraries across the borough of Stockton where youngsters are invited to meet her and have books signed on the day.
They will be at Thornaby Central Library, from 9.30am to 10.30am and 10.45am to 11.45am, and at Egglescliffe Library, from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
