Keecia Bailey proved she was top of the class in a design competition for her school.
Pupils at St Mary's CE Primary School, in Bolton-on-Swale, entered a competition to design a road sign for a 20mph zone in Blenheim Close.
The contest was organised by North Yorkshire County Council's road safety officer Alison Butterfield.
Judging proved a difficult task for the authority's vice-chairman, Councillor Michael Heseltine, but he eventually decided Keecia had come up with the best design.
He presented her with prizes of gift vouchers and road safety gifts during an assembly at the school.
Miniature versions of the sign were also presented to Keecia and the school, while pencils were given to all the pupils.
The sign will be permanently displayed at the entrance to Blenheim Close.
