A website has been launched to bring together information about the North-East's heritage, traditions and culture.
The site, which has been created by the North-East Museums Libraries and Archives Council (Nemlac), with the British Library, is aimed at making information on anything from archaeology, genealogy, traditional music to zoology easily accessible.
Ian Blackwell, Nemlac's head of access and learning, said: "We have been running parts of the website for some weeks and within seconds, people find answers to puzzles about the North-East they've had for years."
Information for the website - www.wellinever.info - has been provided by local groups, libraries, museums and archive services that have digitised their records.
People can log on and see how their neighbourhood has changed since the 1850s by viewing historical maps, learn what it was like to work down County Durham coalmines or take a voyage with Captain Cook.
To showcase the website, Nemlac and the British Library have organised two events, at Live Wires, in the Discovery Museum, Newcastle, on Saturday, July 10, and at Darlington Centre Library, on Saturday, July 17, from 11am to 3.30pm each day.
