The skyline became a weaving riot of kites yesterday, as experts gave a taste of a festival this weekend.
The International Festival of Kites, Music and Dance takes place in Washington, Wearside, tomorrow and Sunday.
Kitemakers from across the world, including the best from the US, Japan and China, will be showing off their finest work.
Included in the creations will be a 70ft pair of jogger's legs and a 100ft octopus.
On the ground, the entertainment programme will feature modern jazz, salsa and contemporary dance along with Morris dancing displays.
There will also be an arts and crafts fair, inflatables and fairground rides.
The festival is open from 11am to 5pm on both days. Admission is free.
