Not a disaster, was how Club Captain, Steve Haslam described the Woodham Men's Teams 10-4 defeat at the hands of table topping rivals Brancepeth GC in their North Durham Golf Union League Match.

James Ivil suffered his first defeat of the season, going down to an opponent who shot a 4 under par score. Shaun Goad battled well but lost out 4&3.

The match was tighter than the score suggests, with both Mark Hodgson and Lee McCavanagh taking their opponents to the 18th green before losing 1 down.

The ever reliable Peter Moralee posted a 4&2 win, and there was an excellent 2&1 win for late replacement Richard Ketley.

Steve Haslam went on to say "We were six points behind Brancepeth earlier in the season and caught them up, we can do it again. The support from caddies and spectating members from Woodham was very heartening for the Team".

There is another crunch match next Tuesday when Woodham meet promotion rivals Wearside on their difficult Cox Green course

The weather was unkind for Club Captain Steve Haslam's Captains Day on Saturday 26th June 2004. High winds and steady rain for much of the day made playing conditions a little miserable. Excellent hospitality provided by the Captain and his good lady, Lesley Mullen, were a welcome relief at the half way point in the round. The field included a party of eight golfers from Steve's former Club Lee Park GC., in Liverpool, they clearly enjoyed their day, despite the conditions.

Clearly not letting the atrocious weather affect him, Graham Bell posted an excellent Stableford score of 42pts to win the Mens competition from Thomas Walker one point behind on 41pts, John Hogg was a further point back in 3rd place.

In the other sections there were wins for Angie Moody on 35pts in the Ladies competition. Tom Kay won the Senior Section on 37pts and Junior Club Captain Craig Johnston topped the Junior competition on 34pts.

Longest Drive - Lee McCavanagh hit a monster drive up the 16th to win the longest drive prize, and fellow Scratch Team player, the irrepressible James Ivil, put his 9 iron, 2 feet away from the pin to win the nearest the pin prize. The putting Comp was snapped up by Adrian Watson

It was appropriate, that the day after Captains Day, the Captains partner and Ladies Vice-Captain, Lesley Mullen won the Thornville Garage Cup with a nett 74. Chris Quinn with a nett 75 was 2nd and there was a popular 3rd place for Brid Keane on nett 77.

Not content with winning the Charity Day competition the day before Dave Mawston went on to win the Rex Ward Trophy Sunday 20th June 2004. His score of nett 65, pipped John Hogg who had a nett66. Jeff Doidge was further two strokes back in 3rd place.
