EASINGTON District Council chairman Bruce Burn is urging everyone to take part in the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association's Shades for a Day.
Councillor Burn will be among thousands of residents, workers and schoolchildren who will be playing their part by making a donation to wear sunglasses on Tuesday, July 13.
He said: "Shades for a Day is a fantastic way to both raise money for Guide Dogs and to highlight an important eyecare message."
As well as fundraising for guide dogs, the association is committed to eye health education and has invested more than £8m on research into the causes of eye conditions.
Tom Pey, Guide Dogs' director of policy, said: "Funding research into eye disease is essential to understand the causes of blindness and how to help prevent sight loss.
"There are simple measures everyone can take to look after their eyes and potentially save their sight. Shades for the Day is an ideal opportunity to stop and think about eyecare and have fun while raising money."
