Cleveland travelled to York for this prestigious Nestle Rowntree Festival of Football with confidence high after their recent success at the high quality Wigginton tournament.
However, there was no room for complacency as the standards for this competition was very high with 27 teams entering this age group.
Along with teams from Durham, Yorkshire and Humberside, Cleveland had to face their Teesside rivals Marton, who had just completed a league and cup double and a very strong Nunthorpe team.
In the group stages of the competition Cleveland remained unbeaten and indeed did not concede a single goal.
After progressing to the knockout stages Cleveland despatched Darlington Spraire Lads by 3-0 to set up a semi-final clash with local rivals Nunthorpe. Again Cleveland triumphed with their stylish brand of football to run out 1-0 winners. This set up a final clash with a very strong Hessle side from Humberside.
Cleveland took the lead in a very hard fought game and held the lead until the final minute of the match when Hessle equalised.
This set up extra time in very testing hot conditions, but despite heavy Cleveland pressure they were unable to find the elusive winner.
This meant that the game would be decided by a penalty shoot-out but the Cleveland player showed great skill and composure to score all their spot kicks and ran out as well deserved winners by 5-4.
