Foster's Cleveland League: The weather again played havoc with the programme. Three games failed to start and the match between Boosbeck and Moorsholm was quickly abandoned.
Loftus though managed to complete their fixture with Ormesby Hall and were rewarded with a five wickets victory following a low scoring match.
Runs were always at a premium and a good innings of 30 by Young was crucial to Ormesby Hall who were all out for 66 as Morrison claimed five wickets for 31 runs and Brown took two wickets without conceding a run.
Replying Loftus edged their way to victory despite conceding five wickets. Pearson opened making 18 and Sanderson added 13 before Whitwell with 14 runs and Morrison who finished with 13 not out, also made critical contributions. Peacock kept Ormesby Hall in with a chance when he took four wickets for just 30 runs.
Moorsholm were 35 for three at Boosbeck when the rain returned and further play was impossible. All three wickets at fallen to Lorraines for just 16 runs. There was no play in fixtures between Staithes and Hinderwell, The Merlin v Dormans and Paragonians v Norton.
In Division Two Skelton Castle defeated Normanby Parklands B by eight wickets. Himsworth captured four wickets for only 17 runs in seven overs, McCabe returned two for nine and Stubbs two for 33 when Normanby Parklands were all out for 36 in 34.1 overs. When they went into bat Skelton Castle suffered an early blow but Beeforth batted throughout for an unbeaten 28. Mitchell added 20 and Blewert 23 not out to a match winning total of 88 for two accumulated in 24 overs.
Cowpen Bewley and New Marske drew their game. When the home side made first use of the wicket they posted a formidable total of 178 for nine declared from 44 overs. Chris Atkinson top scored with 58 which included nine boundaries, Craig Lang added 28 and Barlow 26 after Magin had opened the innings scoring 21.
Taggart and Hailstone were both among the wickets for New Marske, the former taking five for 57 in an impressive unbroken spell of 20 overs while Hailstone had figures of three for 49 from the 12 overs he sent down.
In reply New Marske finished on 85 for three from 30 overs and their top scorer was opener Mendum who was unbeaten on 37 which included six boundaries.
Loftus B had 53 runs in hand of Ormesby Hall after totalling 129 for nine batting first. Lockeron ended unbeaten on 39 for Loftus while in the Ormesby Hall attack none did better than Roberts with the excellent figures of four for 28. Poole took two wickets for 38 and Knight two for 24.
In reply Ormesby Hall were all out for 76 with Carr capturing five wickets for 20 runs and Bulmer five for 40.
There was no play in the games between Dormanstown and Hartlepool and Brotton v Normanby Parklands A, the latter match is rearranged for Monday, August 31
George Mann Cup
Stanhope Grey Bull increased their chances of qualifying for the knock out semi finals when they pulled off a very good win over Wolsingham All Stars. The Bull batted first and reached 114 all out in nineteen overs. Gibson with 27 and Page on 26 moved the score on confidently in the early part of the innings and then they rushed through the late overs with 14 from Poole and 13 from Iley.
The All Stars were quickly upset when Mark Watson and Walker both went for only two runs each. Michael Watson with 27 and Everett with 13 steadied the innings and were later assisted by Mathwin with 25 and Bell with 15. However their scoring rate fell badly in the last four overs and they ran out of overs four short of the target.
Teams are asked to make sure that they send in their tickets and fees to either of the semi finals next week.
The Cestrians continued their fine early season form with a 33 run victory over previously unbeaten Felling at Ropery Lane. Liam Robson scored an impressive 28 not out in a Chester total of 155 for 5. In reply the Felling innings ended on 66 for 3 with Liam Robson 4o 2w 10r and Ashley Vallance 3o 1w 10r taking the wickets.
