Billingham enjoyed a full weekend of competition, the Masters competing on the Saturday and the Juniors on the Sunday, both competitions were held at Felling.
On the Saturday the Masters showed the way with a successful competition achieving 17 Golds at the Gateshead and Whickham Open Gala. All those competing accomplishing personal bests.
Lorraine Riddle competing in the 19 to 24 category was triumphant in all her six races picking up gold in the 100m I.M., free and back, 50m fly, 200m and 400m free.
In the age group 30 to 34 category Alister Wrigley was jubilant with gold in the 50m back, 100m back and fly and 200m back, silver in the 100m I.M. and 5th in the 100m free.
Two swimmers competing in the 40 to 44 age category both with excellent swims were, Shirley Fawkes collecting gold in the 400m and 100m free, silver in the 50m and 200m free and fourth place in the 50m and 100m breast and
Mark Wilson with a silver in the 100m back, 4th place in the 50m free and 100m breast and free, 5th in the 200m free and 6th in the 400m free.
In the 45 to 49 age group five members took part.
Sue Wilson with brilliant swims to finish in gold position in the 50m back, 100m and 200m back, silver in the 100m breast and 50m free and 4th in the 100m free. Gillian Sheehan with a superb swim in the 50m free picked up a bronze medal and was 5th in the 100m and 200m free. Guy Fawkes had some terrific swims with gold in the 200m back and 400m free, silver in the 100m free and back and 200m free and 4th in the 50m free. Ian Muscroft with some great swims came second in the 50, 100m and 200m breast, 5th in the 100m I.M. and free and 6th in the 50m free. Paul Trewin had good swims competing in his first gala coming 5th in the 50m and 200m free and 6th in the 100m free.
Roy Butterworth in the 55 to 59 category swam well to finish in silver position in the 100m and 200m free and bronze place in the 50m fly and 100m I.M.
The Juniors competed in the Durham and District Junior League Finals, Division 3. After competing in 3 different rounds against Ashington, Blyth, Peterlee, Richmond Dales and Hebburn Metro, only Hebburn Metro didn't make the final.
Though the Club were fourth overall the 10 year olds enjoyed success winning a cup for finishing first in their age group category.
