Roseberry Group North East Durham League: Only two games out of six were played in Division One and there were wins for Newton Aycliffe and Sunderland Hospitals.
Belmont struggled to 38.1 overs making just 87 on the rain affected wicket at Newton Aycliffe for whom John Williams captured three wickets for 16 runs in 9.1 overs while Carl Little returned two for 12 from the ten overs he delivered which included no fewer than six maidens.
Davison was also in good form for Aycliffe returning two for 20 and Gledhill took the other wicket at a cost of 30 runs. Errington who opened the innings, contributed 21 before Brooks added 23 to the Belmont total.
When they replied, Newton Aycliffe no doubt had one eye on the weather when they hurried to victory in just 14.4 overs conceding one wicket. Wheeler was soon dismissed but Stuart Mitchie and Stephen Bell then formed an unbroken partnership for the second wicket.
Mitchie ended unbeaten on 58 with one six and seven boundaries while Bell had one six and four fours in 22 not out.
Kelloe managed to save their game with Sunderland Hospitals but went down by nine wickets. Batting first, Kelloe realised only 58 all out in 18.3 overs as Gary Shaw ripped through the innings. He claimed seven wickets for a meagre 16 runs in eight overs and 15-year-old Daniel Shaw took two wickets at a cost of just four runs in 1.3 overs.
Responding, Hospitals lost an early wicket but Duncan forest hurried the score along and he finished undefeated on 44 with five boundaries.
In Division Two, three of the five games on Saturday were washed out. Tantobie hosted Wearmouth and it was the visitors who won by the narrow margin of ten runs following a high scoring game.
When they made first use of the wicket, Wearmouth were given a reasonable start after losing both openers for a combined total of just 13 runs. Barella (26) and Paul Lewis with 46, retrieved the situation and Stephenson then added 25. Assisted by 25 extras, a total of 160 for eight was recorded despite Hogarth taking four wickets for 35 runs and Greenside three for 35 in the home attack.
Replying, Tantobie were in early trouble but Hogarth (30) and Rob Bell (31) raised their hopes before the innings ended on 150 which also included 25 extras.
Ray Morgan captured three for 28, Murphy had three for 22 and Lewis three for 27 for Wearmouth.
Littletown visited Coxhoe and won by six wickets. Mullen (35) and Whitfield with an unbeaten 50 led Coxhoe to the useful total of 126 for nine on a rain affected wicket. Strong captured three of the wickets for 13 runs, John Ricketts had two for 36 and D Nixon two for 27.
When they went into bat Littletown were given s good sendoff by Davies (22) and by M Nixon, who top scored with 37. McDonald made a useful unbeaten 23 and with 23 extras Littletown reached the required target of 127 losing just four wickets all of them to Appleby at a cost of 29 runs.
The other three games scheduled to be played on Saturday were cancelled and on Sunday, Plawsworth completed their rearranged fixture with East Rainton at Durham City's ground.
It was East Rainton who came out on top overtaking the Plawsworth total of 95 for eight with half of their wickets remaining. Willie Orchin top scored with 35 and for Plawsworth, Morrison took three of the five East Rainton wickets to fall for 20 runs.
Langbaurgh League
After totalling 195 for nine, Kildale had to settle for a draw when Broughton and Kirby made 78 for four from just 25 overs. Neil Parkin held the Broughton and Kirby innings together with 36 which included one six and one boundary and Andre White finished unbeaten on 22. Brookes took two of the wickets for 22 runs and the other two fell to Doughty for 21 runs.
Batting first, Kildale scored almost 200 in 40 overs finishing with 195 for nine on the board which included a superb 95 by Steve Corcoran with two sixes and nine fours. Jamie Peirson added 48 with three sixes and four boundaries while for Broughton, Roger Briddock captured four for 47 in 16 overs, four of which were maidens and John Harris had five for 99 from a lengthy 18 overs spell.
Crathorne had eight wickets to spare defeating Chopgate who were all out for just 55. Howard Leng was again in excellent form with the ball for Crathorne claiming seven wickets for a mere 20 runs in 16.4 overs.
Replying, Crathorne had Chris Marshall in form and he finished with 20 not out including four boundaries while Sam Samarage contributed an unbeaten 27 with three fours. Both the Craythorn wickets were taken by Michael Vout for 17 runs in nine overs three of which were maidens.
Hutton Rudby defeated Maltby by 38 runs. Batting first, the home side made a useful start through Dennis with 20 and the number three batsman Ricahrd Fielding whose 37 including one six and four boundaries. Gilchrist added 24, Cooke 28 and John Leather 27, the latter finding the boundary line on four occasions.
A total of 187 for nine was accumulated from only 38 overs even though Chris Barber returned four for 69 in 16 overs and Ben Cowan two for 11 from the three overs he sent down.
When they went into bat Maltby had Chris Francis their opener in good form and he struck one six and five fours out of 58. The innings, however, finished on 139 for nine with Hornby making 23 before being run out. Richard Fielding also struck form with the ball when he was introduced as third change and, taking five wickets for 22 runs in 5.5 overs, brought about a collapse in the Maltby innings.
Ingleby Greenhow went down by eight wickets at home to East Harlsey. Faced with a target of 128, the visitors were quickly into their stride through Mason with 25 and Hodgson, who contributed a top scoring 49. Following the dismissal of the two openers, the good work was carried on by Willey with 28 not out and Wheldon, who ended with 20 not out.
Batting first, Ingleby Greenhow also made a good start through Michael Fawcett and Cameron-Clark who both contributed half centuries to the eventual total of 127 for three.
No play was possible in the games between Skelton Castle and Kirby Sigston, Stafford Place v Thimbleby and Swainby v Scruton.
Oxbridge Darlington and District League
Cockerton had a healthy 60 runs to spare when they entertained Cliffe in Division A.
Batting first Cockerton totalled 174 for six in a reduced 30 overs innings as the runs flowed from Brian Dale with 46, Paul Tomlin 33, Shaun Farrow 47 and Steve Lethbridge who finished 38 not out. Flounder was the most successful bowler in the four-man Cliffe attack capturing two wickets for 38 runs in five overs.
In reply Cliffe were restricted to 114 for eight in their 30 overs. Knight opened with 20 and Walton made 43 with one six and six boundaries before being run out. Foster carried on the good work contributing 25 but a collapse occurred as Malcolm Leafe took three of the wickets for 39 runs in 11 overs. Rawlings conceded just five runs claiming two wickets.
Rockliffe Park defeated Witton-le-Wear by 55 runs. Faced with a target of 161 Witton were restricted to 105 for five when their innings was reduced from 40 overs to 25. Peter Chrisp batted through the Witton innings hitting six boundaries in an unbeaten 56 and Andrew Sneath contributed 33 with three fours. Phil Garbutt had a good day with the ball at Rockliffe Park sending down 13 overs and claiming figures of three for 42.
Batting first Rockliffe Park declared after just 20.1 overs with the formidable total of 160 for four on the board. John Pybus found the boundary line nine times making 67 and James Edwards added 47 with two sixes and four boundaries before being run out. Sneath took two for 65 in ten overs and Alan Jones two for 47 in seven overs for Witton-le-Wear.
Little play was possible at Haughton who were seven for the loss of one wickets against Catterick Village when the match had to be abandoned, while Ingleton were 66 for two at Barton where Stuart Dawson was unbeaten on 23 and Michael Batey 20 not out. This game also became an early victim of the weather while fixtures between Heighington and Raby Castle and Barningham v Middleton St George failed to start.
The same fate was suffered by a number of games in Division B but Spennithorne and Harmby completed their match with Rockliffe Park and won by six wickets.
Replying to a target of 140, Spennithorne were well served by opener Mark Tunstall whose 49 not out included four boundaries. Wayne Farrow also batted well hitting three sixes and four fours out of 47.
When they made first use of the wicket Rockliffe Park ended on 139 for seven in a reduced innings of 30 overs. Eleanor opened the innings scoring 20 but it was Lowe who gave Rockliffe Park a lift and he recorded no fewer than nine boundaries out of 51. Snowden added 25 and there were 30 extras. Simon Walker bowled a good end for Spennithorne and Harmby delivering 13 overs for three for 33 while Farrow, later to star with the bat, captured three for 36 in seven overs.
Lands managed just 101 all out in 23.3 overs and lost by eight wickets at East Cowton for whom Brian Tucker returned the outstanding analysis of six for 38 in 12 overs, five of which were maidens. He bowled four wicket maidens in succession. Charlie Copeland was also in good form returning three for 23 from 8.3 overs. Top scorer for Lands was Andrew Elstob whose 46 included three sixes and five boundaries and there were also double figure contributions from Steve Linsley with 18 and Ian Galstone 17 not out.
When East Cowton went into bat they were quickly into their stride and victory was achieved for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. Andrew Raw collected six boundaries in 30 and Stuart Clark contributed 26 with one six and three fours. Following the dismissal of both openers Brian Tucker finished 15 not out while Smith had an unbeaten 20.
The other four games involving Trimdon CCA and Middleton Tyas, Brompton on Swale v Eryholme, Dales and Heighington and Aldbrough St John v Middleton-in-Teesdale were all washed out without a ball being bowled.
