Cleveland County Association
The Under 25 team has won the northern area EBF league and qualified to meet the southern area champions in the national finals at Skegness on August 21 2004. This is the first time that the team has gone so far and the result was achieved with a squad whose average age is under 18. As well as experienced young bowlers in their 20s it includes ten year old Joshua Shaw and Shaun Morgan 11 as well as several players aged 14 and 15. The team is a credit to team manager Richard Serginson. Needing the result of the final match between Derbyshire and Humberside to go their way Cleveland had to wait a week to learn of their victory. The Adams team which has struggled this season produced an inspired performance to win 184 shots to 125 gaining 18 of the 22 points.
Best rink was Bill Hall (T Gilbert, D.Richards) with an excellent 47 - 9 win. The Newton team staged a great recovery over the last five ends turning a 12 shot deficit to a 13 shot win keeping their hopes of national final qualification alive and well.
Two rinks each won by 14 shots, Steve Slaughter and Mike Young with the Young rink (P.McKeown, J.Pierre) just taking best rink. There are two more games on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 11th July both at Smiths Dock before finals days on July 17 and 18 at Thornaby.
