A MAINTENANCE company that specialises in high-rise and high-level projects has completed a £250,000 refurbishment of the Grainger Market roof.
Stone Technical Services (STS) was called in to work on the 19th Century building by Newcastle City Council.
The Darlington company, which has offices in Bedale, North Yorkshire, and Newcastle, was contracted to set up a gantry to allow regular inspection of the roof of the Grade I-listed building.
Grainger Market opened in 1835 as one of the most spacious markets in Europe.
Today, there are about 100 shops and stalls still operating, many held by the original families for more than a century.
Eighteen months of preparation and planning by the company was needed before work began, with the project taking only six months to complete.
STS has carried out work on a number of historic monuments across the UK, including St Paul's Cathedral, in London, Bishopthorpe Palace, in York, and the Laing Art Gallery, in Newcastle
