A computer club has been launched as part of a North Yorkshire efforts to improve community life.
The club will be based in Marton Methodist Chapel, near Pickering, and aims to provide residents with IT knowledge.
The group's chairwoman, Lady Veronica Piercy said a steering committee had been set up and was raising funds to buy computers, printers and a digital camera.
The club is seeking to raise £7,900 and has already received £2,000 from Lloyds TSB.
It was boosted further by a grant of £805 from the county council, secured through Councillor Mike Knaggs.
Lady Piercy said: "The club will offer sessions to those unable or unwilling to travel to nearby towns. It will provide basic skills, but will also help with trouble-shooting and for special interests, such as family history."
It is also planned to set up an after-school club and to have a village website.
