YOUNG racing driver Edwin Jowsey shrugged off a narrow escape when his car burst into flames during practice to record four victories at Snetterton in Norfolk last weekend.
The youngster from Aislaby, near Whitby, had three cars entered for the weekend - a Lola F5000/F1, a Lotus F3 and a Brabham F2.
During a test session on the Friday morning, Edwin was forced to pull off the track and make a rapid exit when the engine of his Lola caught fire.
The flames were so severe that they burnt his race boots and scorched his overalls as he was getting out.
But Edwin, who is sponsored by Garbutt Heaters of Marske, recovered from his ordeal to dominate both Saturday's races in his Lotus F3.
He twice led from start to finish to record two victories before repeating the feat on Sunday in his Brabham F2.
