A STUDENT is hoping to raise more than £2,000 to travel to Tanzania so she can teach English to children.
Ellie Martin has already organised a host of fundraising events, including parties and band nights, and raised £600 towards the voluntary teaching placement through World Challenge Expeditions.
The 18-year-old, from Tower Road, Darlington, who recently finished her A-levels at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, hopes to travel to East Africa in January.
"The three-month voluntary placement would allow me to teach English in primary schools," she said.
"It is very deprived over there and I want to do something to help the children."
She is hosting a fundraising ceilidh at St Augustine's Parish Centre, in Darlington town centre, tomorrow from 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults, or £3 for concessions.
