A 57-year-old man appeared in court accused of murder today, following the discovery of a woman's body in County Durham.
Peter Killeen, of Palm Terrace, Stanley, was in the dock at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court facing the charge of murdering Susan Carr.
The case was sent to Newcastle Crown Court, where it will resume next Friday. His solicitor, Bill Davison, made no application for bail and he was remanded in custody.
Mrs Carr, a 38-year-old mother-of-two, was found dead in a house in The Middles, near Stanley, at 4.30am on Wednesday after she had spent a night out celebrating her birthday.
