A Bogey competition is probably the toughest form of golf and Sunday saw a large entry with excellent scoring requiring card countbacks to decide the winner between Richard Hewison and Ian Smith who both finished on plus five.
Congratulations to Richard who takes away the cup.
Division One: plus 5 Ian Smith, plus 3 Bill Barclay and Keith Davison.
Division Two: plus 5 Richard Hewison, plus 4 Mark Fletcher, plus 2 Andrew Bailey and Steve Crampton.
Division Three: plus 3 Keith Rollins. Level Graham Johnson.
First division
Bedale's success in the Yorkshire fourth division championship was not repeated in this Harrogate Union event which this year was played at Knaresborough with play spoilt for some by intermittent heavy showers and was won by Harrogate golf club with a score of 295. Bedale's A team of Kevin Ward 72, Steven Whitwham 78, Roger Parry 78 and Mike Henson 79 totalling 307 left them in sixth position while the B team finished with a score of 331.
Red Cross Cup No 8
Now well past the halfway mark scores are slowly moving up. Leading scores: 43 points Richard Megson (27); 41 John Walker (28); 39 Geoff Brownlee (20); 38 Mike Mayman (7).
Red Cross Cup No 9
This week's competition was dominated by the achievement of Pete Robinson who took the short way to the green on the par four 346-yard 11th 'elbow hole' and scored a hole in one. He followed it with a two on the par three 12th, but in this week's high scoring round he failed to qualify for a prize but will no doubt look forward to joining the Hole in One Club and sporting the tie to remind him of this Tuesday night.
Leading scores: 44 Richard Harding (11); 43 Jeff Lewis (27); 41 John McAuley (19); 40 Terry Pratt (20).
Junior Stableford
A white tee challenge for the junior golfers this week, but Declan Barclay and Daniel Brown both had their handicaps reduced by two shots. 44 points Declan Barclay (18); 40 Daniel Brown (30); 39 Darren Brown (10); 36 Alexander Johnson (28).
Romanby GC
THE Junior section remain unbeaten in the Junior Harrogate and District GU Division with wins away to Knaresborough and at home to Otley. They are in third place with games in hand. Luke Searle, Rob Bellerby, James Lagan, David Aston, Brian Wood, Richard Cooper, Liam Foster and Michael James were involved in these matches and showed good form.
Romanby Juniors are well represented with Brian Wood, Jack Eyre, Michael James, Thomas Weir and Adam Robinson being selected for the Yorkshire coaching scheme.
Foster and James were selected to play in the men's second team away to Thirsk and Northallerton, although the team lost. Anthony Robinson was the winner of the junior clubhouse salver on a stableford format with 39 points. David Aston was runner-up with 37 points.
