TWO councils have vowed to work together to keep an advice and information service in Spennymoor town centre when it is forced to relocate.
The Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) will be asked to leave its present base in Spennymoor Town Hall within six months because the town council is restructuring its accommodation.
The town council this week agreed to press ahead with plans to move staff from first- floor offices to street level, so they are more accessible for residents, meaning the CAB will have to move.
At a meeting of the finance and general purposes committee, councillors said that while their own relocation would benefit the town, it was important to keep the CAB office.
Councillor Christine Kennedy said: "We are working with the trustees of CAB and colleagues at Sedgefield Borough Council to keep this important facility."
Phil Ball, head of leisure services for the borough council, said space could be found for the CAB in Spennymoor Leisure Centre.
He said: "We helped the CAB move into the leisure centre at Newton Aycliffe, so a precedent has been set, and we are working with all concerned to try and keep them in the town."
