PRIMARY school youngsters have been named among the top fundraisers in the country.
Durham Lane Primary School, in Eaglescliffe, has been named as Teesside's top fundraising school for its participation in Words Worth Reading, an attempt to break the world record for the biggest ever poetry reading.
More than 250,000 schoolchildren took part in the event, organised by Marie Curie Cancer Care and The Wordsworth Trust, and sponsored by Yellow Pages.
The children simultaneously recited Wordsworth's Daffodils poem in a bid to smash the record for the largest mass reading aloud.
The event raised money for Marie Curie Cancer Care's 2004 Daffodil Campaign, whilst also celebrating the bicentenary of Wordsworth's Daffodils poem.
Durham Lane Primary raised £385 and is one of 50 top fundraising schools across the UK.
Each winning school receives £100 worth of book tokens, donated by Yellow Pages, in recognition of the children's efforts.
Headteacher Judith Harrison said: "I am delighted the school raised so much money to help Marie Curie.
"The children enjoyed learning the poem and felt very excited to be part of such a big event.
"The book tokens will be really useful. It is a lovely reward for the school's efforts.
