A COUNCILLOR has won a campaign to get seats installed at a Darlington cemetery.
The three benches, costing more than £1,000, were installed in North Cemetery after Coun Bill Holmes complained to the borough council.
He had received numerous requests from residents who were fed up at having nowhere to sit when they visited loved ones' graves. Coun Holmes, ward councillor for North Road, said: "When you visit a cemetery, you need to sit and have a quiet ten minutes.
"It was so important to people that I decided to do something about it.
"I am not just going to stop at three either. I want some more benches in there and plan to ask for them."
