ACCIDENT investigators are looking into the cause of a two-car crash which left six people requiring hospital treatment.
The collision took place outside the Tesco Extra store between North and South Burns, near Chester-le-Street market area, early on Saturday.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to free one of two men in a blue Citroen AX, before he was taken under paramedic care to Durham's University Hospital of North Durham, with head, leg and suspected back injuries.
Five people travelling in the other vehicle involved in the crash, a white Ford Mondeo taxi, were also taken to hospital suffering shock and minor bruises.
Fire crews from High Handenhold and Durham stations were at the scene for more than an hour as part of the rescue operation.
