EURO 2004 may have been a a bit of a failure for David Beckham, John Terry and the rest of the England team, but the European Mencap Gateway Championships had an altogether different result.
For victory in the 25th annual tournament went to England - and playing a key role in the side was Terry Boosey, of Harrogate.
Terry, 20, is a visually-impaired student at Henshaws College, who helped England cruise to victory at the tournament in Geneva.
They won eight matches out of nine, and beat Belgium 1-0 in the final, with Terry playing at left back.
Terry met his team-mates during a training session at Tockwith, before travelling to Geneva.
The weeks of training obviously paid off, and Terry, who plays for Harrogate Gateway Football Club, was delighted with the team's success.
"It was great to get one over on Beckham," he said.
Gateway is the leisure arm of Mencap and is made up of more than 600 clubs, projects and Gateway Award groups across the UK.
Terry isn't the only Henshaws student celebrating success. Rachel Lovell has been picked for the regional football squad for next year's national Special Olympics.
She will represent the region at the games in Glasgow in July 2005. Rachel, a third-year student, won three medals in this year's regional Special Olympics including gold in the 50m women's race.
