AN 80-year-old pensioner is in hospital with a broken hip after she was mugged during the day.
Police have described the incident as a despicable attack on a vulnerable and defenceless woman.
She was walking along Roberts Crescent, in the Bilton area of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, at 3.20pm on Sunday, when she was approached by a young man.
He smiled at her before he snatched her handbag and pushed her to the ground. The bag contained house keys, cards and £130.
The man ran off, leaving the woman on the ground with a fractured hip, bruising and a cut eye. She is being treated for her injuries in Harrogate District Hospital.
Her attacker got into a cream two-door hatchback car, which was driven by a man in his 30s with a boy aged about 14 as a passenger.
The attacker was 6ft, fat, aged about 23, with dark brown long hair.
He wore a cream knee-length jacket, blue trousers and a dark blue baseball cap.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on (01423) 539334.
