Multi-million pound plans to redevelop Teesside International Airport have been announced today
More than 6,000 new jobs are expected to be generated in the region over the next ten years if planning permission for the proposals is granted next month.
The two applications include: The extension of the airport terminal and refurbishment of the departures hall; Provision of nine new aircraft stands and a new taxiway running parallel to the existing runway; A cargo and maintenance village for air freight handling and repairs A new business park with parking and a 100-bed hotel and restaurant.
Long term investment of £20m over five years is coming from Peel Airports, which has a 75 per cent shareholding in Teesside International.
An Environmental Impact Assessment is being carried out this month, looking at air traffic, noise pollution and ecology impacts..
