TWO men appeared in court yesterday over a double stabbing.
Gavin Calvert, 23, of Newland Court, South Shields, South Tyneside, was charged with two counts of Section 18 wounding, aggravated burglary with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.
South Tyneside Magistrates remanded him in custody.
Laurence Calvert, 52, also of Newland Court, South Shields, was charged with assisting an offender. He was remanded on conditional bail.
Both will appear before Newcastle Crown Court on Monday.
The charges relate to an incident in Awnless Court, South Shields, on Sunday, when a 28-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were stabbed.
A 14-year-old youth arrested by police has been released and faces no further action.
The man and woman suffered serious injuries and were last night still recovering in hospital, but both were said to be in a stable condition.
