ACCORDING to a report, Newcastle's economy has improved, with unemployment falling and the number of qualified workers above the national average.
The report was by Newcastle City Council.
Stefan Lepkowski, chairman of the Prosperous Newcastle committee, said: "The committee works to improve the wealth of the city and it is important for us to build up a complete and realistic view of both the positive and negative changes occurring in the area."
The report showed the number of VAT-registered businesses in the city had risen in only two of the past five years.
