AN application for an operator's licence for a waste transfer station has been deferred.
The Environment Agency had to make a decision by the end of last week about whether to issue a licence for the transfer station at Stainton Grove, near Barnard Castle.
The Stainton Grove Action Group has opposed the transfer station since 2002 when Durham County Council, on behalf of contractor Premier Waste Management, announced plans for the waste transfer station.
A Court of Appeal hearing concerning environmental issues at the site will take place in October.
The Environment Agency has deferred its decision on the licence with the permission of Premier Waste Management.
A spokesman for the Environment Agency said: "Following a meeting with the applicant we have extended the determination period until July 30.
"Our lawyers are looking at whether the planning judicial review will have any implications on the issuing of a licence and there also a few other technical issues."
