A HOUSING association has been given £500 to buy fall detectors for its elderly residents.
Northallerton Lady Lionesses made the donation to Broadacres Housing Association after hearing of Hambleton Lifeline's plans to introduce the detectors for customers prone to falling over or losing consciousness.
The fall detector is worn on the waistband and if the person slumps to one side in a chair or falls to the ground, the detector sends a radio signal to the Hambleton Lifeline control centre.
Calls are then made to send assistance to the person.
Northallerton Lady Lionesses president Win Thompson said: "We often hear of people who have fallen and lain overnight on the ground in great discomfort, and this amount of money could help to keep five vulnerable people alive."
