A WOMAN appeared in court yesterday charged with cruelty to her newborn baby who is fighting for his life.
Lynsey Margaret Mandry's three-week-old son, Joshua Cool, remained heavily sedated in hospital yesterday.
Ms Mandry, 20, appeared at Hartlepool Magistrates' Court facing one charge of cruelty to a child and one charge of perverting the course of justice.
The baby's father, Paul Alan Cool, 21, of Garside Drive, Hartlepool, had previously been remanded in custody charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.
Joshua was described last night as being in a stable condition in the intensive care unit of James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough. Doctors do not yet know if he will survive or suffered brain damage.
Magistrates agreed that Ms Mandry, who was supported by her mother in court yesterday, be allowed to stay with her baby at hospital.
She is staying at an address in Middlesbrough and is not allowed to enter the borough of Hartlepool.
Ms Mandry and Mr Cool, who has been remanded in custody, will appear at Teesside Crown Court, in Middlesbrough, tomorrow.
