DARLINGTON'S pre-season preparations continued with a comfortable 4-0 win at Durham City last night.
A strong Quakers line-up made it two wins out of two for David Hodgson's men thanks to goals from Mark Convery, trialist Joaquim Ferraz, Leandro Scartascini and Brian Close.
Despite a battling first-half performance from the hosts, three second-half goals ensured Quakers' build up to the new season continued with a professional performance in front of an impressive Archibald Stadium crowd.
And Hodgson will no doubt want to take a further look at Ferraz, Curtis Fleming and defender Rob Jones, who all impressed.
Jones is on trial from Stockport County, while Ferraz and Fleming are both free agents.
With a quarter-of-an-hour played midfielder Clarke Keltie found space on the edge of the Durham area before sending a weak left-footed effort high and wide.
Minutes later Quakers took the lead through Convery.
After failing to clear Ryan Valentine's cross, the Durham defence was left standing as Convery poked the ball home from close range.
The impressive Convery was unlucky not to claim his second goal of the night when, after a neat interchange of passes down the left with David Murphy, the former Sunderland man sent his header straight at Durham keeper Adam Dowell.
It was former Darlington player Glenn Robson who was presented with Durham's best chance of the half.
After rounding Quakers keeper Michael Price, Robson could only roll a weak effort straight into the path of the back-tracking David McGurk.
With half-time approaching, striker Michael Byrne, on trial from Stockport County, should have doubled Quakers' lead when he side-footed straight at the Durham keeper.
Quakers boss David Hodgson made ten changes at half-time, including the introduction of giant defender Jones.
Robson who continued to look Durham's most dangerous player, although he should have done better when he failed to score with only Price to beat.
Former Dundee United striker Ferraz doubled Quakers' lead moments later when he headed past substitute keeper Paul Gilmore from close range.
Only the heroics of Price denied Durham a late consolation when he tipped an attempted lob from another former Quaker, Stephen Walklate, over the bar. But despite Durham's brave efforts, Quakers excelled late on with Scartascini and Close completing the scoring.
