A CHILDREN'S centre that had no youngsters when it opened is now proving a success.
The Kids Choice out-of-hours care centre opened in January in Leadgate, near Consett, but only attracted two children in its first month.
However, six months on, the business is thriving with half its 30 places filled.
Owner Jane Sidey, 27, who launched the venture with her friend, Anne-Marie Curtis, said: "It has been a gradual start and a learning curve, but I have really enjoyed it."
The centre was set up with a £38,000 grant from the New Opportunities Fund, and caters for youngsters aged three to 12.
Ms Sidey, of Leadgate, set up the business after her experiences of trying to balance work with raising her son Danny, now four.
The club, based in the Miners Hall, in Watling Street, is expanding its opening hours for the school summer holidays. Until September, it will be open weekdays from 7am to 6pm.
Staff have planned a series of day trips for the children. For further details, contact Ms Sidey on (01207) 505438, or 07817 528907.
