SCHOOL pupils put their artistic talents to the test to give a Durham group a logo.
The Friends of Pelaw Wood, which was formed to clear up and look after the woodland in Gilesgate, staged a competition to find a winning design.
Pupils at Gilesgate Primary, Laurel Avenue, St Hild's, St Joseph's and St Oswald's schools were invited to take part.
Group secretary Roger McAdam said there had been 248 entries and that selecting winners had been difficult.
Mr McAdam said: "The standard has been amazingly high, and we're very impressed by both the level of appreciation of young people of a local natural resource and of their capability in expressing that artistically."
The overall winner was Joseph Scollen, of St Joseph's. Prizes of books were also given to other winners from the schools.
Mr McAdam said: "We're delighted by the response of local young people. We want to share with them our delight in Pelaw Wood.
"There's so much here that's interesting and really beautiful. We'd like to invite them and the whole local community to spend time with us in helping make this a resource for all of us to enjoy."
