Darlington Spraire Lads Under-16s, sponsored by Cummins Engines Ltd, entered two teams in the Teesdale soccer sixes which was held in Barnard Castle.
The tournament was very competitive with 34 teams participating in the under-16s group. The Spraire A team were drawn in a qualifying group of nine teams and were unlucky not to proceed out of the group as they only lost one group game by a 1-0 score.
Of the remaining seven games they won two and drew five finishing third overall in the group. New signing Danny Hewiston had an excellent debut scoring three of the teams ten goals.
The Spraire B team were drawn in a qualifying group of eight teams and proceeded to the finals with 5 wins one draw and a 1-0 defeat to the eventual group winners Chester predators. The quarter finals were played against the other group winners Waldridge AFC and ended 0-0. This was the seventh clean sheet of the day kept by the excellent goal keeping of Tom Pattison.
Unfortunately the dreaded penalty shoot out saw Spraire B eliminated.
Following first class performances by both Spraire teams Lewis Webb was awarded Spraire player of the tournament for his overall team contribution and seven goals scored for Spraire B.
