Stanhope Grey Bull came close to reaching their first ever George Mann Cup Final when they played Wolsingham Club in the semi final.
The Bull batted first but made a very slow start when they only reached 18 for 1 in the first eight of their 20 allotted overs. The scoring rate improved when Smith with 16 and Gibson 21 became the Stanhope side's top scorers. However when the overs were completed the Grey Bull had only reached 73 for 5.
Wolsingham Club looked to be in greater difficulty as they had only reached 15 for 2 in their first eight overs. However the following six overs produced the difference as Henderson with 26, Peart with 17 and White with 20 went after the bowling and reached their target with six overs to spare.
The Final will be a repeat of last season when the holders, Wolsingham Mill Race will meet Wolsingham Club. In their semi-final the Mill Race met Wolsingham All Stars, who they had just beaten the week previously in the qualifying league. The All Stars batted first and were dismissed for 74 with Kevin Walker being the only player to trouble the bowlers with his 29 not out. The Mill Race maintained the required run rate comfortably and set their sights on another cup victory.
