Worthington CIU Team Knockout Cup: Four Third Division teams stole the honours in the Second Round of the Team Handicap when they disposed of First Division rivals.

Fishburn B, Ferryhill B, Coundon B and Tow Law A all made their way into Round Three with victories over their higher ranked rivals.

Tow Law A were taken to the final pink before they beat the visiting Newton Aycliffe, who were conceding 126 start. John Briddick made a good start for the visitors with a 51 points win but Stephen Laing took the second frame for the Lawyers by three points. Stuart Neil won by a massive 52 points and Ronnie Hall by ten to leave Newton Aycliffe just 17 behind going into the final frame. Lee Cullinan became the Lawyers hero when he potted the final pink to beat Mark Howe by nine points to give the home side victory.

Ferryhill B entertained and beat the reigning Champions, Spennymoor A, who started well when Karl Welsh won by nine and Michael Pratt, with a 44 break, won by 75. However the Roddam family came to the table with Terry winning by 33, Ian by thirty and Billy just holding up his end to prevent Paul Biddle from pulling the Moors back from an impossible deficit.

Fishburn B visited Sherburn Village and only received 27 start but were able to extend this by 11 when Paul Nicks won the first frame. However Alan Greener won by 33 and Gary Deluce by seven to close the gap before George Whitlock became Fishburn's saviour when he hit his best form to win by 57 points and give his team a lead of 55 going into the final frame, where Alan Nicks did enough to keep Sherburn's Peter McGowan quiet to give Fishburn victory.

Coundon B only received nine points start from the visiting Newhouse but won the first three frames through Gordon Duff, Andrew Tuesday and Steve Bainbridge to go 86 points ahead. Paul Wright cut the lead by 38 points and Harry Dinsdale made a sterling effort in the final frame but could only win by 25 leaving Coundon B the winners.

Sacriston came close to beating their hosts at First Division Brandon after receiving 50 start. Willy Nixon extended Sacriston's lead to 62 after the first frame but then Brandon had wins from Graeme Jackson and Brian Graham to close the gap to seven points. Jeff Evans then won by three for Sacriston but they found Kevin Sample in top form as he beat Mark Appleby by 26 points to take Brandon through.

Shotton Palms pulled off a good win at Fishburn A with only one point start. The home side had wins from John Griffin and John Carter to move 24 ahead. However James Evans junior almost matched his best break when he put in 42 for the Palms to beat Alan Buist on the black. Charlie Hirst had a similar win for the home side, which left them 32 points ahead going into the final frame. However Jimmy Evans put in one of his best displays to win by 51 points and take Shotton into Round Three.

Wheatley Hill B received 65 start at Witton Gilbert and, thanks to big wins from Steve Cave and Kevin Conner with a 30 break, recorded a good win. Paul Nord, John Rooney senior and Ian Renwick won for Witton.

Spennymoor B pulled off a good home win over New Durham despite only receiving 16 points start. Only Thomas Cairns managed to win a frame for the visitors, whilst the Moors went through with wins from Steve Ball, Alan Rouell, Dennis Dodd and Wayne Parry.

Coundon A gave away 148 points start to their hosts at Leeholme B then lost the first frame, which was won by Tony Clish. However the visitors recovered and steadily overhauled the lead to win by 41 points following wins from Billy Goggins, Frank Nicholson, Dennis Payne and Graham Goulbourn.

League newcomers from the Victoria only received 39 points start from the visiting First Division, Crowtrees A but this was extended by 70 after Ronnie Murray's big win in the first frame. However Crowtrees came back to steadily close the gap with wins from Sonny Hann, Sean Johnston and Keith McLaughlan with Colin Barron sealing victory in the final frame.

Crook Belle Vue gave their hosts at Hunwick 41 points start but never recovered after Neville Blenkinsopp won the first frame for the home side by 57 points. John Warriner and Harold Lomax won for the visitors and Tom Ward for the home side before John Bate and Derek Potts drew the final frame.

Crowtrees B entertained Willington and never won a frame as Jeremy Martin, Gordon Parkin, Arthur Goldsborough, Tom Parkin and Stan Bennett recorded a big win for the visitors.

Old Shildon never dropped a frame against the visiting Langley Park as Paul Armstrong with a 30 break, David Waites, Martin Taylor, Mal Parsley and Mick Hoggart took them to a win by 100 points.

Only Paul Wilson managed a win for Bearpark B when they entertained Durham City, who had wins from Barry Stoddart, Dave Carter, Michel Pratt and Eric Wright.

The Bearpark A team only had Alan Smith as a winner when they visited league leaders, Wheatley Hill A, who went to victory with wins from Dennis Clish, Alan Hall, Dave Walker with a 30 break and Jack Wright.

Tow Law B were forced to concede their match at Stanley Central when they could not field a team of suitably qualified players.

Bishop Auckland Golf Club re-established themselves as Championship favourites when they whitewashed the visiting Barnard Castle Glaxo. The golfers had wins from Charlie Blake with a 50 break, Andrew Aisbitt with a 59 break, Kevin Mordica and Paul Weighill. This win moved the Golf Club two points behind Hopetown with two matches in hand. Darlington Cricket Club trail the golfers by one point but have played two more matches.

Tindale Crescent made their best win of the season when they whitewashed the visiting Darlington Snooker Club C with wins from Frank Simpson, Wayne Kirkbride, Dave Redfern and Steve Davey. This win moved Tindale well clear of the bottom spot in the Second Division, which is led by Darlington Snooker B. Northgate are five points behind with a match in hand, whilst Shildon Elm Road are a further five points adrift.
