RELEASED Middlesbrough defender David Murphy is attracting interest from Scottish Premier League side, Hibernian, writes Lee Hall.
The Hartlepool-born full-back is currently on trial with Darlington after being freed by Boro at the end of last season.
Murphy's availability has alerted a number of clubs, including Hibs, who are managed by former Middlesbrough defender Tony Mowbray.
The Edinburgh-based outfit were represented at Durham City on Wednesday night as Murphy impressed in a 4-0 Quakers win.
Mowbray will be keen to follow up his interest in the 20-year-old, who made ten appearances on loan at Barnsley last season.
However, Murphy is keen to remain in the North-East and a switch to the New Stadium would suit the Teessider.
As well as a striker, Quakers boss David Hodgson is keen to bolster his left-sided options after missing out on Bolton's Jeff Smith. And after two solid performances for Quakers this week, Murphy would fit the bill.
Quakers take on Middlesbrough in a behind-closed-doors game at Rockcliffe Park tomorrow, where Hodgson is expected to run the rule over several players, including Murphy.
Portuguese striker Joaquim Ferraz will be handed another chance to impress after scoring against Durham, while former Raith Rovers forward Sebastien Ferrero could also play a part.
Hodgson will take another look at Stockport County duo Michael Byrne and Rob Jones when they return on Monday.
* A Darlington XI will play at Wearside League Darlington RA tonight (7pm kick-off).
Taking place at RA's Brinkburn Road ground, admission is £1 and children get in free.
* Boston have denied reports striker Derek Lilley is set to re-sign for Livingston only seven weeks after leaving the club.
