WHITE collar workers who had been employed by a North-East company on the Wembley Stadium project are facing an uncertain future.
While the jobs of 205 construction workers at the site have been saved, the fate of 45 technical staff is not yet known.
Earlier this month, Cleveland Bridge, of Darlington, announced it would not be finishing the Wembley Stadium project and would be laying off its 250-strong workforce at the site.
The jobs of the construction staff were saved this week when a workforce agency, Fast Track, agreed to employ them on the same terms and conditions.
It is hoped a similar deal can be worked out for the remaining 45 office staff.
A spokesman for Cleveland Bridge, said: "We're delighted that the jobs of the construction staff had been transferred. It is great news.
"We're very, very encouraged that something similar can be worked out for office staff and we're waiting to hear what's happening. Discussions are still ongoing."
The work that had previously been done by Cleveland Bridge will be taken over by Dutch company, Hollandia.
A spokesman for Multiplex, the stadium's main contractor, said: "At the moment, the staff are still CBUK employees and it would not be our place to comment on them at this time."
