Coors League: Cornsay Royal Oak pulled off a magnificent home win over last season's runners-up, Newhouse Club, who only managed three points.

The Oak started in great style when they took both trebles but then they had to share the singles when they had wins from Steve Clifford, Stan Witherspoon and Ian Truby with Brian Atkin, Brian Jones and Steve Wilkie replying for Newhouse. However the Oak turned on full power to take the three doubles.

Esh Stag's Head opened their season with a three points win at Tow Law New Market B. The Stag's took both trebles and added singles through Dave Hindmoor, Colin Tomlinson, Ken Brown and Tom McQuillan whilst Dave Murray and Alan Thompson replied. The New Market saved face when they took two of the three doubles.

The leading individual scorers were Steve Wilkie with 180 for Newhouse Club and Paul McMenamin with 160 for Tow Law Station.

Tow Law New Market A lead the table with a four points advantage over Sunniside Comedian, who are two points ahead of Tow Law New Market B.

Crook Ladies League

Evelyn Vitty of Tow Law New Market B hit her second 171 when she put three in the treble 19 to help her side win by five points at Billy Row Royal George. This victory lifted the New Market B up to third place, eight points behind the second placed Crook Jelly's Bar B and 12 adrift of the leaders, Willington New Inn. Crook Queen's Head A, the reigning champions, are 13 points behind the league leaders but have two matches in hand.

The other leading individual scorers were Mandy Elston 140 and Michelle Heatherington 120 for the New Market B, Gladys March 138 for Belle Vue Club, Michelle Palin 138 for Billy Row Green, Norma Parkin 138 and Jackie Clark 132 for Jelly's Bar B, Eileen Simpson 133 for the Travellers Rest, Michelle Blythe 128 for Billy Row Green B and Joanne Kitson 121 for the North Point.
