Darlington Building Society NYSD Premier League Premier Division: Even though they defeated Darlington in the final of the Randall Orchard Cup on Wednesday night, Northallerton are pleased to have seen the back of their rivals - and Stephen Chapman in particular - for at least another season. Not only did they lose last week's top of the table clash but Richard Chandler spent the night in the Friarage Hospital.
Secretary Ian Morton explained "Richard was bowling when he was hit by a ball from Chapman. He had to leave the field and was forced to stay overnight in hospital. He is doubtful for today's home game with Guisborough.
"Chapman also caused David Wake to attend hospital when he was with Hartlepool a couple of years ago. David was struck in the mouth and lost a couple of teeth. We are just over the moon that we will not have to face him again this season!"
Northallerton will no doubt also be delighted that they have played Darlington twice. They suffered an amazing collapse last weekend when they conceded their last six wickets in 22 deliveries without adding a run.
"It was remarkable, really, and I do not think I have seen such a dramatic collapse. All six wickets went to catches and from being in a reasonably healthy position all of a sudden we were back in the pavillion for a modest score" added Morton.
While Chandler remains doubtful for today's visit from Guisborough, Northallerton definitely need to make one change since captain Ian Gill is unavailable and the side will be led by Doug Mulholland.
Guisborough still lead the table despite their fixture being the only one to be completely washed out last Saturday.
They have injury doubts surrounding Richard Dunn, who picked up a groin injury in Monday night's MacMillan Cup defeat at the hands of Redcar.
Gary Bolton was unable to play last weekend because of an injury to his hand and both players will undergo late checks on their fitness. William Wyatt has returned from holiday and replaces Martin Hyde.
Darlington go to Normanby Hall and the good news for the hosts is that Steve Chapman is not playing. He is involved in an ECB tournament and with Paul Raine and Duncan Johnson also ruled out Darlington bring in Jamie Watson and Richard Stock. They have not yet decided who will fill the third vacancy.
Normanby Hall still cannot call upon Colin Vaulks as they aim to improve on a mid-table position.
Bishop Auckland will play two matches over the weekend giving them the chance to enhance their championship aspirations. Following today's game with Darlington R.A. at Brinkburn Road they travel to Richmondshire tomorrow for a rearranged match postponed a couple of weeks ago.
Student Richard Partington has returned home for the summer but Keith Stones could resume if he has fully recovered from an injury which has sidelined him recently.
Darlington RA. are unchanged as they hope to build on last weeks victory and Richmondshire, too near the bottom for comfort, meet Hartlepool this afternoon before lining up against Bishop Auckland. They are happy to name the same XI selected for last weekend's cancelled match.
Blackhall name father and son Mark and Luke Cushlaw at Redcar and Paul Webster is also included since Anthony Gray, David Mole and Paul Ross are all ruled out.
The Colliers have manged just one win and are only 17 points off the bottom. There is no doubt that they have missed Ben Usher who moved to Bishop Auckland and Stephen Hanson, now at Silksworth.
Redcar show a couple of alterations to their line-up. Graham Bowen and Mally Whitehead resume, taking over from Dave Dowson and Andy Hassack.
Great Ayton, bouyed at winning for the first time last weekend, host Middlesbrough with David Pennock resuming in place of Richard Hore.
Boro have chosen a strong side including Darren Birkett who was in good form before last Saturday's game had to be abandoned.
Second top Saltburn, ten points off the leaders, travel to Marske who are unchanged as they attempt to move up the table.
